Back in 2001, when Jay was just eight years old, he decided he wanted his very own pumpkin patch. With a little help from his parents and sister, he planted a few acres, and before long, pumpkins became his thing. He spent years learning everything he could about which varieties grew best, and every Saturday you could find him at the Downtown Murray Farmers Market selling what he’d grown.
Fast forward almost twenty years to the fall of 2020 — when I (Rachel) came into the picture. We met through some mutual friends, and honestly, I had no clue about farming or pumpkins at the time. But Jay had a sweet way of introducing me to his world — he’d leave pumpkins and sunflowers on my front porch. (I mean… who wouldn’t fall for the pumpkin farmer after that?)
By 2021, I was all in. I traded horses and lesson plans for learning how to plant, pick, and haul pumpkins. I even jumped in at the Farmers Market to help customers find their perfect pumpkin — and I have to say, it was way more fun than I ever expected.
Now, the pumpkin patch isn’t just Jay’s dream anymore — it’s ours. We’ve spent so many evenings talking about what we hope to build here for our small town. More than anything, we want this farm to be a place where families make memories, neighbors gather, and God’s goodness shines through.
So, come visit us at the patch this fall. We’d love to meet you, swap a story or two, and help you pick the pumpkin that’s just right for you.
Our STORY
FAMILY is everything
Jay’s family has been such a blessing to us — we truly couldn’t run Jay’s Pumpkin Patch without them! Fun fact: the patch is actually located right in his parents’ front yard.
His sister, Delissa, and brother-in-law, Scott, run Mainord Farms over in East Prairie, MO. We’re so excited to share some of their fresh produce here at the patch in the years to come!
